Something to Look Forward To

Something to Look Forward To

Maybe I’m strange, but I love the anticipation almost as much as the experience itself. The planning, the ideas scribbled in notebooks, the countdown… there’s something hopeful about all of it.

Anticipation gives tomorrow something to hold.

We don’t stop needing something to look forward to simply because we grow older. If anything, we need it more.

Lately, I’ve been feeling that anticipation again. As the Seasonal Echoes launch gets closer, I’m looking forward to returning to a place that has always felt like home to my heart. The planning, the packing, the countdown… they’re becoming part of the memory before the journey has even begun.

Maybe that’s why memories and anticipation belong together. One reminds us of where we’ve been. The other gently reminds us there’s still more waiting for us ahead.

A meaningful life isn’t built only by treasuring the past. It’s also built by looking forward to what’s still to come.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve also realized something else. Sometimes the greatest gift we can give another person is to become something they look forward to. A visit. A phone call. A lunch date. A grandchild’s laugh filling the house. A reason to look at the calendar and smile.

Maybe that’s why anticipation feels so important.

It reminds us that while memories are treasures we carry with us, hope is something we choose to keep building.

So make plans. Circle dates on the calendar. Call someone. Invite them over. Book the trip. Start the project. Give yourself - and someone else - something to look forward to.

Because sometimes the anticipation becomes part of the memory long before the moment ever arrives.
